The Cisco client will run in XP mode, no problem at all, but to use programs in Win7 you would need to setup a proxy in XP mode and connect through that to get to the VPN connection.īen53 Thanks to for the link on how to setup the PIX to use Shrew.
The only problem I did run into was the Cisco VPN Client for a PIX. Over all I would say it is totally ready for daily production use. I actually have run into the same problem (I installed win7 64bit on my workstation to see how it would work - I have 4 GB ram so why not). We really don't want to replace the pix right now but I don't know of any other 64bit Cisco IPsec pix clients.

So, before I blow away the laptop and install the 32bit Enterprise OS I thought I would bounce it off of you all to see what others are doing. We have a pix IPsec fw and Cisco does not have a 64 bit Windows IPsec client. I tried installing the VPN client onto our freshly downloaded 64bit Enterprise and low and behold I get the dreaded "Windows 64bit is not supported" message from the Cisco client installer. So, I made the mistake of thinking W7 Enterprise should work too, but neglected to realize the latter is 64bit while I have been doing all my testing with32bit.
I have been testing the eval version (W7 Ultimate) for over a yr and all of our apps work. So, here I am, sitting at my desk just about ready to tell the boss I am ready to deploy our first W7 Enterprise 64bit laptop and then I decide that since this is a laptop user I will install the VPN client and test it from home.
